Blacksmith Festival "The Day of Scobary"

6 september, 2014, Pskov


By the legend, Peter the Great called the people of Pskov "scobar" (holdfast maker) when he was not able to straighten out the holdfast forged by local blacksmiths while Peter the Great used to easily unbend horseshoes. On his order, Pskov masters started to produce holdfasts for Russian fleet under construction.

In Pskov the founder of the revived Russian school of art forging Vsevolod Smirnov has lived and created. The park of interactive forged sculptures, replenished with new exhibits to each festival is the unique one.

The celebration takes place in the historic center of the city, near the walls of Pskov fortress. Spectators watch the actual work of the masters, they themselves may forge a coin or a nail, take part in the competition of inventors. One may hire a fancy vehicle, walk around the mall where products of Pskov masters are shown, taste "porridge from an ax".
